I never intended to impose my preferences on anyone. so far, I only observe it in a positive way and wait for more information. If this will be too frustrating, I'll just skip this project. I'm more interested in why they made such a change than saying "change everything because I don't like it!" That is why I communicate with users here on the forum and do not try to bring my opinion to the developers. I don't think they are interested in the opinion of a single user like me either. Of course, they will not redo everything in the later stages of development. I specifically not used the word "childish" using "family-friendly" instead. Well, may I assume this?īut given the popularity of games in a cute cartoon style, I decided that the studio preferred to satisfy the tastes of a wider more numerous audience rather than the tastes of their old fan base. I believe that previous games in the universe have amassed a fan base with certain preferences. I did not say that some audience is somehow worse than another (you assumed that by yourself). 'Invisible Inc' is perhaps even more cartoonish as well but it's a serious and sophisticated game.I meant that each style has its own audience. I said that the art style reminds me of 'Invisible Inc', a game that is much closer in style and so many other ways to DotE than either of the Endless games. (An audience not as sophisticated as you, perhaps? I'm certain that's not what you were infering.) If that is indeed the case, I disagree with you. Your employment of cartoonish in conjunction with other adjectives suggests that you think cartoonish in this instance means 'childish and dumbed down' to cater to "a wider audience". We all know that there are plenty of 'cartoons' that are dark and mature. If that means it looks cartoonish, well, so what? But I will say this, the art style for this game is distinctly different from the other two Endless games just as DotE's was. It simply boils down to whether we like it or not and perhaps you don't. There's no actual argument to be had there but I still don't agree with you. For the tiny but vocal number of folks for whom the graphics are unappealing, the art-style will be more important. 'It's the gameplay, stupid!', and it's the gameplay that will make this a cute, bubbly cartoon game or not for most of us. "Big deal", we might say to these small number of folks who missed out on an excellent game experience over something so trivial. That particular design decisions is responsible for detering several dozen customers from buying that game. Certainly they are less cartoon-like than the screenshots we have seen suggest but so what? They're not going to throw it all in the trash and start over because two posters think it looks childish.Ī very small number of folks complained that Endless Space featured wire-frame ships on their maps which I would argue is neither 'darker' nor 'more mature' than what we're seeing here. 'Invisible Inc' is perhaps even more cartoonish as well but it's a serious and sophisticated game.Īnd I don't happen to think that Endless Legend or Endless Space look all that much alike either if you disregard the UI and certain art features they all have in common (FISD symbology in particular). You think it looks soft, cute and bubbly whereas Endless legend and Endless Space 1 and 2 look darker and more mature.
